For some reason, the wonderful people in Japan have named a soft drink after me.
It's really more of a Gatorade style drink. It looks like it's a can of sweat but really it's something to drink if you've been sweating a lot, which, if you are in Japan in the summer, could be quite a bit.

Hello, Hideki here!
ReplyDeleteWell, it turns out Stevia is sweetner that Japan is using for 30 years.
Supposed to be healthier than sugar, and does not increase insulin level, so good for people with diabetics.
In the states, however, FDA does not permit use of it for additives in food, as they consider it "unsafe." (And there's no evidence of harm, really. Although, it seems like they do allow use as supplement and medical use.)
I'm guessing those companies who sells those synthetics sugars are lobbying FDA to not approve, as approval of it could well mean them going out of business!

ReplyDeleteI once pushed the wrong button on a vending machine at a Japanese train station and received a bottle of Pocari Sweat instead of water --- even though I was really thirsty; I couldn't drink it at all -- of course the train showed up and I got on before I noticed my error (with a large mouthful) -- that'll teach me to be distracted while buying a drink in Japan...
ReplyDeleteColin.
Doh! Sorry for multipost, didn't meant to do that.
ReplyDeleteLast night, it was "waiting for reply" for too long, so I had to try few times...(and it didn't give me any feedback posting completed!)
Blogger is pretty cool, but the fact is, it's really slow when it comes to posting. They need to speed that up! I want better service for free!
